Are You Living or Just Managing Your Life? How Slowing Down Helped Me Find Clarity.
A quiet moment on a tree branch… no rushing, no trying to figure everything out. Just breathing. Just being.
There was a moment I realized I wasn’t actually living my life… I was managing it.
Trying to keep up.
Trying to figure everything out.
Trying to become something I thought I needed to be.
And in the middle of all that trying… I could feel I was living at a surface level.
I was telling myself that I needed to work harder and do more to get where I want to be.
But the truth was, I wasn’t lacking effort. I was lacking presence.
I was waking up already overwhelmed, thinking about everything I hadn’t done yet. I felt like I was behind in my own life.
All that pressure disconnected me from myself.
From my body.
From my emotions.
From the quiet moments that actually make life feel like life.
So I started doing something different.
Not bigger.
Not more impressive.
Just… more aware and intentional.
I began noticing the way I moved through my day.
How I rushed simple things.
How I didn’t let myself pause.
How even rest felt like something I had to earn.
I asked myself: What if I stopped trying to catch up… and just arrived where I am?
Slowing down didn’t magically fix everything.
I still have responsibilities.
I still think about money.
I’m still figuring things out.
But now… I feel my life again, and my next steps are clearer.
I feel the moments with my son more deeply.
The quiet in between the noise.
The difference between forcing and flowing.
And maybe that’s what changed everything… I stopped trying to control my life and started experiencing it.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed… Disconnected… Like you’re constantly trying to “get somewhere”… I want to share what’s been helping me.
Not perfectly. Just honestly.
🌱 What helped me slow down (in real life)
I stopped trying to fix everything at once:
I focused on one moment, one task, one breath. I call it “returning to the moment”
I paid attention to how I move:
I stopped rushing simple things like walking or being somewhere.
I let rest be enough:
Not something I had to earn… just something I needed.
Prepared to go to bed earlier
I became intentional about what entered my senses:
Less social media
More intentional learning on YouTube
More time in nature
Reading more of God’s word through a book called “The 5 - Minute Prayer Plan for When Life is Overwhelming” Which I highly recommend.
As I navigate life, I am still unlearning the pressure and still catching myself when I start to rush. I’ve realized that you don’t need to have everything together to start living intentionally. You just need to stop abandoning yourself in the process.
Maybe you’re not behind. Maybe you’re just disconnected from yourself… And maybe being aware and intentional is how you find your way back!
